University of Glamorgan Online Research Repository
Policy Options: Executive Summary
Since April 2007, work has been underway at the University of Glamorgan to create an online research repository as part of the Welsh Repositories Network (WRN) programme. In order to ensure that the repository serves the academic community effectively, consultation with stakeholders in the Faculties has been necessary to define operational policy in the areas covered in sections elsewhere on these pages.
A range of options is available for the formulation of policy. This document is intended to enable those concerned to make well-informed choices for the operation and management of the repository
- for users within the Faculties
- as a resource for the University as a whole.
The DSpace software system on which the repository will initially be based allows a community of users, e.g. those in a given Faculty, a considerable degree of autonomy in matters of policy. The primary function of the repository we are in the process of creating is, however, to store full-text versions of
- published research material – both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed
- theses and dissertations that have earned the awards for which they were submitted.
We therefore recommend restricting submissions to items that fall within these two categories
- to ensure a high quality of submissions
- to maximise straightforwardness of operation
- to reduce personnel requirements and increase cost-effectiveness.
