(Last updated 1st August 2011)
eduroam @ Glamorgan Is Not Yet In Service
We are currently working towards compliance with both the Home and Visited requirements and will be looking to see a Home service become available sometime before the end of September 2011.

About eduroam
The JANET Roaming Service (JRS) is part of an international federation of academic and research institutions which allows its users to visit other organizations and gain internet access using the same username and password as they would use at their home institution.
The service forms part of the eduroam federation, which provides an infrastructure for roaming between institutions throughout Europe, Taiwan and Australia. Institutions within the US have also expressed an interest in eduroam. For more information see the global eduroam web site (external).
More information about the UK’s eduroam service can be found on JANETs’ eduroam web site (external).
All participants (institutions and individual users) are bound by the JANET Roaming Policy (PDF – external), should abide by their own Home organisations Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) and whilst visiting us by the University of Glamorgan AUP (PDF).
Our Setup at Glamorgan
The University of Glamorgan will be implementing a Tier 2 Service as both a Home and Visited site supporting the following 802.1X security and encryption methods (with PEAP-MSCHAPv2 and TTLS-MSCHAPv2):
- WPA / TKIP
- WPA / AES
- WPA2 / TKIP
- WPA2 / AES
This list may change as ways to compromise such mechanisms become more prevalent. Note: We are aware of weaknesses found in the TKIP network encryption method as described by JANETs’ Cipher Suite Selection Advisory guide (PDF) (external)
Glamorgan Users
Users from Glamorgan wishing to use eduroam at other institutions should ensure their setup is working correctly at Glamorgan before their visit. See our eduroam configuration pages for client setup details.
IMPORTANT: Some institutions only allow certain security and encryption algorithms, WPA2- Enterprise with AES being the most widely accepted and most secure. If you have a working Glamorgan configuration that isn’t supported at a visited institution, you may have to create another profile during your visit. Participating institutions should have eduroam pages that detail their local requirements. Please also note that support for eduroam users lies with the Home organisation and not the Visited site.
Before you leave Glamorgan
- Check whether the institution you are visiting participates in eduroam (eduroam availability)
- Make sure you have configured and checked your system. Configuration notes are available for a number of platforms (see the eduroam configuration pages for further details).
